Piyush "Bobby" Jindal is the 55th Governor of the State of Louisiana. Born June 10, 1971, in Baton Rouge Louisiana he attended Brown University where he received honors in biology and public policy and Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.  He is married to Supriya Jolly Jindal and they have three children, Selia, Shaan & Slade.

Bobby Jindal, the youngest to ever serve as Governor took office on January 14, 2008. He was preceded in office by Kathleen Blanco. Prior to assuming the position of Governor he served three years in the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana's 1st District.   In the election for Governor, Jindal took an incredible 54% of the vote, which included the majority in 60 of the 64 parishes. His closest competitor took 17%.

In 1996 Jindal was appointed to be secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, an agency which then represented about 40 percent of the state budget. During his tenure as secretary, Louisiana's Medicaid program went from bankruptcy with a $400 million deficit into three years of surpluses totaling $220 million.  In 1998, Jindal was appointed executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, a 17-member panel charged with devising plans to reform Medicare. In June of 2008 Jindal vetoed the Lousiana legislature in their effort to double their pay.

What is now known as one of the largest and smoothest evacuations in U.S. history in late August 2008 prior to the Louisiana landfall of Hurricane Gustav Gov. Jindal issued mandatory evacuation orders for the state’s coastal areas and activated 3,000 National Guardsman to aid in the exodus. It was in stark contrast to Hurricane Katrina. With Gustav, government officials vacated hospitals and nursing homes and put the poor, the ill, and the elderly on buses and trains out of town. The evacuation was credited as one reason that Gustav only resulted in 16 deaths in the U.S. During that time, Gov. Jindal had been scheduled to address the Republican National Convention, but cancelled his plans to focus on Louisiana’s needs during the storm.

Recently, Jindal pushed through legislative financial disclosure laws along with good government groups. The result was Louisiana vaulted to number 5 from the previous number 46 ranking in "ethics in state government"

Some of Gov. Jindal's positions are:

He has a 100% pro-life voting record according to the Nat'l Right to Life Comm.
He opposes abortion without exception.
He does not condemn medical procedures to save the life of a pregnant woman.
He supports the use of emergency contraception in the case of rape.
He opposes embryonic stem cell research
He voted against increasing federal funding to expand embryonic stem cell lines.
He supports co payments in Medicaid
He supports the teaching of intelligent design in schools.

He was a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee and in 2006, Jindal voted with the Republican Caucus 97 percent of the time during the 109th Congress.

When speaking about the media Jindal had this to say:
"We need to be principled in our conservatism. We need to be unabashed, unafraid. We won’t always be popular with editorial writers and a lot of the members of the national media, and that’s okay. At the end of the day, it’s more important that we stick to our principles."

Jindal is known as a great speaker, not only is he inspiring, he is honest and not afraid to tell people where he stands.  In a recent interview with Greta Van Sustern Bobby Jindal was asked what he thought about being considered a Governor who is the future of the Republican Party, his response was:

"Well, I think, certainly, leadership is going to have to come from the governors. We're going to see solutions coming from the states. You know, it's really not important who the messenger is, it's the message, the substance, that's important. As a party, we've got to become a conservative party again on spending, on cutting taxes, on fighting corruption. We've got to offer real solutions to the problems that Americans care about. That's applying our conservative principles to health care, to energy, to the economy. It's not going to be enough to simply say no to the Democrats in Washington, we have to show them that conservative principles work, and I think we can do that in the states."

"In the '90s, we offered the country Welfare reform from the state level. We showed people that if you help people go to work and get an education, we can cut poverty rates; we can cut teenage pregnancy rates. We showed them that conservative principles work. The most compassionate thing was to help people go to work, not just send them a check for sitting at home. We need to show that conservative principles continue to work."

Governor Bobby Jindal is on our list of up and coming Conservatives who we believe will change the face of the Republican Party and bring back the conservative values and principles that made the Republican Party so great and which will make it great once more! There were some points in your spotlight I wasn't aware of. Thanks for bringing them to light and for turning the spotlight on Jindal. I'm excited to see what he can do in Louisiana and possibly a US Presidential run in 2012.
