History Shows Redistribution Of Wealth Doesn’t Work
Socialist President elect Barack Hussein Obama and the socialist Democrats want massive redistribution of wealth in America. History shows redistribution of wealth doesn’t work. Redistribution of wealth takes the incentive away from the producers i.e. the workers to produce more and production decreases. History shows this causes a totalitarian government where elitists rule and everyone else suffers.
The eminent historian William Durant wrote, “…periodically wealth is redistributed, whether by the violent confiscation of property, or by confiscatory taxation of incomes….Then the race for wealth, goods and power begins again, and the pyramid of ability takes form once more; under whatever laws may be enacted the abler man manages somehow to get the richer soil, the better place, the lion’s share; soon he is strong enough to dominate the state and rewrite or interpret the laws; and in time the inequality is as great as before.”
Over 2,000 years ago Romans enjoyed a glorious redistribution of wealth feast under Caesar Augustus. The government took care of every citizen from the cradle to the grave, providing schools, welfare, social security, hospitals, and much more. Whatever the people wanted Caesar’s government provided. To pay for all of this, taxation reached the point where producers lost the incentive to work. Society became a free for all with the people devising ways to evade taxes and the government writing new laws to prevent the tax evasion. As everyone enjoyed his false prosperity the great productive ingenuity that had built Rome slowly disappeared.
As Rome declined the government took an increasingly firm hold over the lives of its citizens. The original republic ultimately evolved into an extreme totalitarian state. The decline of productivity led to the decline of freedom, which inevitably led to the extinction of the Roman Empire.
