NEA And Their Progressive (Socialist) Agenda

 The NEA teachers union advocates a host of leftist positions. They are one of the worst offenders when it comes to promoting the ‘progressive‘i.e. socialist agenda.  Now they are pushing a radical leftist (socialist) guide to revolution by Sol Alinsky on their web site.

The NEA agenda includes abortion, sex education, teen pregnancy, school prayer, socialized medicine, affordable housing, drug testing, prisoner rights, bilingual education, global warming, and health care.  They recently removed from their website the celebration of the communist takeover of China by Mao Zedong.

The NEA is the largest labor union and is the eighth largest contributor of campaign money to congress. 91% of the donations go to Democrats.  The NEA took in an estimated $569 million that it spent on local, state and national political campaigns during the 2007-2008 election cycle, according to the National Institute on Money in State Politics. This made the NEA the nation’s single-biggest campaign contributor for the 2009-2010 election period.

The teachers unions have been very aggressive in blocking spending cuts at state and local levels even in states bordering on financial collapse like California.  The NEA has raised another $15 million to date, double the amount raised at the same time two years ago. This fundraising prowess is why Harvard University education scholar Paul Peterson declares that the NEA is “in a position to tell state legislatures what to do.”

The NEA is telling the states and local school boards what to do.  Isn’t this the tail wagging the dog?  The NEA for many years has been pushing socialism in our school classrooms.  We don’t need Alinsky’s radical socialism in our classrooms.  One thing we need to do to turn America around and back to a free republic is take education away from the NEA and other teacher unions.
