YouTube McCain And Cornyn On Spending Bill

Harry Reid with the lame duck session closing introduced a 1900+ page omnibus appropriations bill.   This bill has over 6000 pork and earmark items.  The bill is $1.27 trillion of spending with 10% of it pork.  No one has seen the bill they are supposed to vote on.

This is nothing short but a complete abuse of the taxpayers. This is politicians showing us who's really the boss. This is the Democrats getting in their last big kick in the voter's rear end before they lose control of the House. This is an outrage ... question is, are the voters paying attention? Will the Republicans fight back?

"That omnibus bill will be loaded down with earmarks and pork-barrel spending, which is a direct -- a direct -- betrayal of the majority of voters on Nov. 2 who said 'Stop the earmarking, stop the spending, stop the pork-barrel projects,'" protested Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

$80 million in grants to states and Indian tribes to preserve Pacific salmon
$13 million in clean water grants for rural and Alaskan native villages
$4 million for the Kentucky National Guard's marijuana eradication efforts
$8 million to help maintain the B-1 bomber fleet in his state
$10 million to build a center in memory of Rep. John Murtha
$18 million for groups named after the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA)
 $6 million for parkland acquisition in Hawaii
$349,000 for swine waste management
 $2.9 million for Grand Forks International Airport expansion
$3.5 million for termite research in Louisiana

The hope among Democratic leaders is that with a government shutdown looming on Saturday as the current spending patch expires, Republicans will be forced to accept the plan, or most of it.

Now Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint are insisting that the bill be read in its entirety by the clerk on the Senate floor before a vote is held.

This atrocity needs to be stopped.  America spoke in November.  Reid and the Democrats again refuse to listen to us.  The Republicans need to vote NO and either get a continuation bill thought February to keep government running or let the government shutdown.
