Obama- Get Used To High Gas Prices
YouTube: Obama "Think about a trade-in"
Last week in Pennsylvania Barack Obama told a man who questioned him about rising gas prices to think about trading in his gas guzzler for a vehicle with better mileage. That along with his 2008 responses of 'check the air in your tires' and 'get a tune-up' show Obama's elitism and how out of touch he is with real working Americans.
Obama said there are three things the U.S. can do – but nothing that will work in the next few weeks.
YouTube Obama on gas:
Obama said the third step is to “start looking at electric cars, and maybe natural gas cars, so that we’re not just using petroleum to power our vehicles.”
Finally addressing the questioner, Obama conceded, “None of that is going to help you this week, though. So, like I said, if you’re getting eight miles a gallon you may want to think about a trade-in. You can get a great deal. I promise you, GM or Ford or Chrysler, they’re going to be happy to give you a deal on something that gets you better gas mileage.”
America has the world's largest oil reserves. We need to look at natural gas and legitimate alternatives. But now we need to DRILL BABY DRILL. Obama hasn't let us drill and doesn't plan on letting us drill. He wants to destroy our economy.

I agree with Obama in principle. We DO need to seriously look at alternative and renewable energy sources. In the past, we've had gas scares like this, and then the rush to create alternative fuels is diverted by falling prices again. I get what he's saying when he wants us to get off oil--but this isn't like teaching your kid to swim and just throwing them into the deep end.
We're talking about some REAL consequences here if he just allows this to continue. The economy was crippled the last time that gas shot up over $4/gallon...and when it hits $5/gallon (which experts will predict it will by Memorial Day)--we're going to have some MAJOR issues.
I actually voted for Obama in the last election. And I still think he's well-intentioned. I don't think he's an evil guy at all. What I DO think, however, is that he's unrealistic. I'm all for moving to cheaper, renewable energy--but not at the expense of the country. Obama wants to create jobs--but jobs will be utterly destroyed by rising gas prices because people will spend all of their expendable income on necessities like gas and food, rather than spending it on the other areas of the economy. His approach is misguided and overly optimistic. We're not all in the position of being able to "trade in" our cars.
Even then--the fuel-efficient cars out there that are within an affordable price range for most Americans only like at max like 40 mpg. That's a lot...but it's really not THAT much--especially when gas is $5/gallon. And most hybrids and electric vehicles are NOT reasonably priced for the average consumer. I looked in a Nissan Leaf--and the payment was like $500/month after the government rebates! Seriously...this is NOT going to work in his favor come 2012...
