The Left Obscures The Truth

The federal government budget starts in the House of Representatives.  The president gives his budget proposal to Congress.  But it is only a guideline a starting point for the House and Senate to make a budget.  The president then either signs the budget and it becomes law or he vetoes it.

The Democrats controlled Congress since January 2007.  The Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 and 2009 as well as 2010 and 2011.  When President George Bush tried to compromise on spending in 2008 and again in2009, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid by-passed Bush entirely until Barack Obama could take office. Then they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.

During this time Obama was a member of that very Congress that passed all those massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as president to complete the 2009 budget.

If Obama and the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.   That was the lowest deficit in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.

After 2007 the Democrats in Congress took control of all spending, and that includes Obama, who voted for the budgets.  What Obama should be  saying is, "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20, 2008. " 

The facts are, if Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself, through the Democrats that controlled Congress, not George Bush.

Under Obama and the Democrats, the government during the last three years has borrowed on average about $4 billion each day. That staggering sum is far in excess of the $1.6 billion per day during the eight-year tenure of George W. Bush, who until Obama's presidency had borrowed more than any peacetime president.

It's time for Obama and the left to stop the blame game.
