Where Do They Get Their Power

In the last month we have heard much about the 1 percent.  According to Barack Obama and his class warfare these people are the reason for the 99 percent not having more.  Obama and the Democrats blame this 1 percent for the current financial crisis.

Where exactly does the 1 percent get its power? It isn't money; just because a person is rich doesn't mean I have to deal with them at all. They can't force me to do anything. Yet some unnamed and unelected clerk at any random government office can force me to do all sorts of things I would rather not.

That power comes from the government. I keep asking this question and never get an answer; how can the other 99 percent fail to elect representatives in government that only represent themselves?  We can correct the systemic problems that led to our current financial crisis.

If we choose to take the steps necessary to correct the systemic problems that led to our current financial crisis, we need to:

1. Repeal Gramm-Leach-Bliley and reinstate Glass-Steagall
 
2. Repeal Dodd-Frank, which does absolutely nothing to address the reasons for the mortgage meltdown or the financial crisis

3. Sell government direct equity ownership in private sector corporations even though that will contribute to the national debt in the short term

4. Start enforcing Sherman anti-trust laws, particularly in the financial sector

5. Put Fannie and Freddie back on the books and conduct a thorough, public investigation into the role they played in the mortgage meltdown. If the government thinks these lawsuits against the big banks will aid that investigation, then by all means continue them.

6. Begin the process for a Constitutional amendment putting term limits on the members of Congress

Barack Obama and the Democrats want you to think the 1 percent is the problem.  They need to place the blame on anyone but the true people who have caused this economic crisis.  They, the government have caused this crisis.
